hide behind a Smile

A smile, plastered just right
A laugh, faked to perfection.
Head up, posture, check.
Look them in the eyes
Paint a pretty picture
Hide the canvas, bare.

The wall comes up
repair, fortify
See who dares to scale it
But look, there are cracks.
Chip away, create a hole.
Break it down.
Please.

Someday, the facade will slip
The mask will fall
The canvas, clean as silence
The wall, crumbled, broken

Someday, it won't be necessary
To hide behind a smile.
